Robert "Bud" W. Peters

Robert "Bud" W. Peters, 88, of Saegertown, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

Bud was born in Meadville, on February 20, 1935, a son of the late William E. and Mary Louise (Kline) Peters.

On January 1, 1978 Bud married Judith A. Thomas; she survives. He had previously married Virginia Daniels on October 9, 1954.

Bud retired in 1994 from Greenleaf Corporation as Vice President of the Steel Production Division. Beginning his career with the Greenleaf family in 1960, he held various positions in engineering, manufacturing, sales and marketing. He previously had been employed as a tool designer with the former McCrosky Tool from 1953 - 1960. Starting in 1957, while working at McCrosky Tool, Bud also worked alongside W. J. Greenleaf, Sr., founder of Greenleaf Corporation, which led to the design and development of the, then revolutionary, indexable carbide insert cutting tools. These tools are used worldwide today in the metalworking industry and in 1960, they led to the startup and subsequent success of Greenleaf Corporation Manufacturing in Saegertown. Three years after retiring, in 1997, along with his son Robert W. Peters, Jr., Bud was instrumental in the startup and success of Turning Point which was a 100+ bed, residential type chemical dependency treatment center, located in Franklin. In 2001, after the business was fully established, Bud turned it over to his son and a partner. Bud was a 1952 graduate of Saegertown High School where he played baseball, basketball and in the fall of 1951 was on the first Saegertown High School football team. He was of the catholic faith and in his earlier years attended the former St. Agatha School until the ninth grade. Bud was a lifetime member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a former member of the Meadville Country Club. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, bowling and fishing for crappies on Edinboro Lake with his wife Judy. Following his retirement, Bud enjoyed the winter months with Judy in Lake Placid, FL. Nothing compared to the enjoyment that Bud had attending activities of his grandchildren as the time spent with family meant the most to him. He will be missed.

In addition to his loving wife Judy of 45 years, Bud is survived by three children Robert W. Peters, Jr. (Tammy) of Conneaut Lake, Kimberly Helffrich (partner Chuck DuBose) of Ashville, NY, Mark Peters (Sandy) of Saegertown; seven grandchildren Chris Peters (Kelli) of Saegertown, Hallie Jo Peters of Pittsburgh, Ashley Hunt (Kevin Schultz) of Pleasantville, Scott Motter (Danielle) of Ashville, NY, Brittany Vanderhoof (Craig) of Russell, Matthew Peters of Jersey City, NJ, Ryan Peters of Saegertown; 17 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two brothers James E. Peters (Frances), Ronald E. Peters (Nancy) both of Saegertown; several nieces and nephews.
