Robert "Bob" James Powell

Robert "Bob" James Powell, 71, of Meadville, passed away at home, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer, on Friday, December 3, 2021.
 
Bob was born in Meadville, on October 5, 1950, a son of the late Melvin and Faye (Seley) Powell, Sr.
 
On June 10, 1972 Bob married Patricia (Patty) Morante; she survives.
 
A 1968 graduate of Saegertown High, Bob was also a graduate of the Auto Mechanic Program at Vale Technical School.  He worked at various auto shops before opening his own business in 1983, Bob Powell's Auto in Meadville.  Bob had a wonderful rapport with his customers and they considered him a friend.  He retired in 2009.  A life member of Meadville Elks BPO #219, he was a former member of VFW Post #2006 and the Meadville Eagles Club.  He was a fan of auto racing and he enjoyed golfing as well as bowling and was inducted into the Western Crawford County Bowling Hall of Fame in 2001. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and playing softball.  Bob loved time spent with his family, his large extended family and friends.  Among other things, he will be remembered for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.
 
In addition to his wife, Patty, of 49 years, Bob is survived by two sons Jeff Powell (Heather), Aaron Powell both of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren Logen, Natalie, Brynn; six sisters Evelyn Horne, Helen Sullivan, Joyce Powell, Sharon Bailey (Don), Linda Riorden (Bob), Margaret Baker (Ron); a brother Richard Powell; two sisters in law Rose Powell and Ethel Morante; numerous loving nieces and nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.  He is further survived by special family members Tita and Ron Gibson, Pat and Mary Mantini, and Harry and Wendy Bish.
 
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister Beverly Stanley (Eugene); brothers Melvin Powell, Jr. (Ellen), Donald Powell; brothers in law Jim Sullivan and Leland Horne.
 
Family and friends are invited to call from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday with Fr. Joe Petrone, Parochial Vicar, officiating.
 
Bob will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery.
 
Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute 16792 Conneaut Lake Road or Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty St., both in Meadville, PA  16335.
