Mr. Robert 'Bob' J. Pfleger, 87, of 23079 Mitchell Road, Saegertown, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, at home.

Bob was born in Jersey City, NJ on September 11, 1926, the son of the late John W. and Ellen (Fewer) Pfleger.

On May 2, 1972, Bob married Hazel 'Shawn' Bailey; she survives.

A member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Bob previously had been an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Cambridge Springs, where he served as an Eucharistic Minister, taking communion to a local nursing home as well as shut-ins.

In the 1970s Bob began his career in Drug & Alcohol Counseling in Washington, DC, eventually moving to the Meadville area. He retired from Meadville Medical Center where he held the position of Administrator for the Drug/Alcohol Rehabilitation Center. Following his retirement Bob continued to lecture at Meadville Medical Center twice a month on spirituality to the patients of Stepping Stones. Additionally, he impacted many lives at the Crawford County Veterans Administration providing support, friendship and leadership to combat veterans who are experiencing PTSD. He graduated from Seton Hall University in 1950 and completed his graduate studies at Mount St. Marys in 1954. Bob was a veteran of WW II, US Navy where he served on the destroyer USS Parker DD 604. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2006, USS Parker Association and the Meadville Management Association. In his earlier years, Bob served as a volunteer firefighter. Bob will be remembered as someone who spent most of his life dedicated to helping substance abusers. The most important things in his life were God, his family and helping people recover. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife, Shawn of 41 years, Bob is survived by his children Alexander R. Pfleger and his wife Amy of San Diego, CA, Anne K. Pfleger of Findlay, OH, Sarah E. Medvec and her husband Tom of Saegertown, T.J. Pfleger and his wife Aimee of Marlborough, MA, ten grandchildren Lee Lauer, Preston, Giselle and Silas Pfleger, Jullian, Ryan, Alyssa and Bailey Medvec, Ethan and Meghan Pfleger.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas, a brother, John Pfleger who was killed in action during WW II, a sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Joe Henke.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-8 on Friday, January 17, 2014, at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, with Fr. Marc Solomon, Pastor, officiating,

Interment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in Cambridge Springs Cemetery.
