Ralph N. Hagen, 96, of 455 Chestnut St., Meadville, formerly of Rochester, NY, passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at Juniper Village, Meadville.

Ralph was born in Rochester, NY on February 10, 1920, a son of the late Roy Clarence and Mabel (Hendricks) Hagen.

While serving in Wales during WW II, Ralph met and fell in love with M. Brenda Ward. On November 29, 1946 they were united in marriage; Brenda preceded him in death on July 20, 1985. He subsequently married Mary Ross in July 1986; she preceded him in death on May 12, 2007.

He was an active member of the Church of the Ascension, Rochester, NY.

After more than 30 years of service, Ralph retired from the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY; he had previously been employed by Rochester Products. A WW II veteran, Ralph entered the US Army on January 30, 1943 and served his country honorably until his discharge on April 6, 1946. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School in Rochester, NY. Ralph was a member of VFW. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing softball and playing bridge. In addition to the legacy of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Ralph leaves a legacy of life's lessons which he not only taught but also lived - among them, a strong work ethic, having never missed a day of work in 40 consecutive years. He also demonstrated a faithful commitment to his church as well as adaptability to life's challenges.

Ralph is survived by three children Barbara Grzegorzewski and her husband Steve of Meadville, Brian Hagen and his wife Rebecca of Tuscon, AZ, Elizabeth Hagen and her husband Jay of Santa Monica, CA, seven grandchildren David Shoup, Steven Shoup and his wife Christine, Megan Hollern and her husband Chris, Jon Grzegorzewski, Ariel Abt and her husband Evan, Sam Rowin, Sara Kelman, three great grandchildren and a very special niece Patricia McGlory of Rochester, NY.

In addition to his parents and wives, Ralph was preceded in death by three brothers LaVerne Hagen, Clifford Hagen, William Hagen and a sister Marion Keavin.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Ralph will be laid to rest on the grounds of Church of the Ascension, Rochester, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to Juniper Village, 455 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.

The family would like to thank the staff at Juniper Village, Meadville, for their loving care during the past five and a half years. The family equally appreciates the support that was provided by Lakeland Hospice.
