Mr. Peter 'Pete' Maietta, 88, of 776 Azalea Dr., Meadville, passed away Wednesday, May 19th, 2010, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, after a period of declining health.
Peter 'Pete' was born in Meadville, on August 25, 1921, a son of the late Angelo and Raffaelo (Musica) Maietta.
In 1950 Peter married Francine Pontillo; she preceded him in death in 2003.
A skilled craftsman, Pete was a carpenter who worked in construction. A graduate of Meadville High School, he entered the US Army on October 15, 1942 and served his country during WWII until his honorable discharge on November 17, 1945. He was a life-long member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, and a 61 year member of Carpenters Local #268. Pete had a love for carpentry and a deep love for his family.
Pete is survived by a daughter Marsha Maietta of Pittsburgh, a sister Anne DeLuca of Pittsburgh, three brothers Anthony Maietta and his wife Jane of Saegertown, Patsy Maietta and his wife Tomasina of California, Joseph Maietta and his wife Lorraine of New York and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Francine, of 52 years, Pete was preceded in death by two brothers John Maietta, Nick Maietta, five sisters Mary Consla, Rose Monarch, Angie Basile, Margaret Quint and Carmella Johns.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 2:45 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 22nd, 2010, with Fr. Richard J. Toohey, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with full Military Honors will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
