Mary 'Eileen' Gilmore, 87, of 625 Shenley Dr., Erie,, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. Marys Home-East, Erie.

Eileen was born in Bessemer, on September 8, 1927, a daughter of the late Earl S. and Elsie K. (Weaver) Glasgow.

On August 19, 1950 Eileen married Robert Dale Gilmore; he preceded her in death in July, 1998.

She was a member of Christ the King Church, Bessemer, and attended St. Jude the Apostle Church, Erie.

In 1988 Eileen and her husband became residents of Erie. Eileen retired from her teaching career in 1986 with 33 years of service. She began her career in 1948 at Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, where she taught until 1952. From 1957-1959 she taught at George Washington Junior High School, New Castle, and from 1959 until her retirement she taught at Mohawk Area School District, Bessemer. While teaching at Mohawk Area School District she accepted the task of coordinating the new state mandated Junior High Reading Program. She was responsible for writing the Course of Study for 7th and 8th Grade Developmental and Remedial Reading Programs. Additionally she was appointed Reading Department Chairman. A 1945 graduate of Bessemer High School, Eileen was also a 1948 graduate of Slippery Rock University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education. She went on to earn her Masters Degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington. She was also a PA Certified Reading Specialist. Eileen was a life member of Slippery Rock University Alumni, of the PA Association of School Retirees and of the PA State Education Association. She also held memberships with National Education Association of Retirees, the Lawrence County Council of School Retirees, the Carnegie Library for the Blind, Pittsburgh, and the Sight Center of NW PA, Erie.

Eileen is survived by two daughters Jean G. Hardner and her husband Kirk, Janet E. Malinowski and her husband Andrew, both of Erie, two granddaughters Sarah Magilson and her husband James of Carnegie, Leah Hardner-Orlando and her husband Thom of Erie, two grandsons Robert Malinowski of Erie, Joseph Malinowski of Erie, six great grandchildren Grace, Nathan and Olivia Magilson, Elijah, Onnaleigh and Xavier Hardner-Orlando, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband Robert of 47 years, Eileen was preceded in death by her four year old daughter Joan Elsie who was a twin to Jean, two sisters Evelyn Slagle, Eleanor Ferguson, two brothers Earl Robert and Edwin L. Glasgow who was a twin to Evelyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Christ the King Parish, St. Anthony Building, W. Poland Ave, Bessemer, with Fr. James A. Downs, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery, Union Twp., New Castle.
