Mary A. Ashby, 77, of 223 Walnut St., Meadville, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Meadville Medical Center.

Mary was born in Conneaut, OH on December 17, 1936, a daughter of the late Emma Phillips.

She married Creed D. Ashby; he preceded her in death on May 3, 2007.

For many years Mary and her husband, Creed, owned and operated the former Western Auto Store in Meadville. She later became employed by Leech Tool and Die for several years. She was a 1953 graduate of Conneaut High School, Conneaut, OH. Mary was a member of VFW Post #2006, Saegertown American Legion Post #205, the Meadville Eagles Club and the I.C.C. Club. She loved taking care of her dog, Peanut.

Mary is survived by a sister in law Ruth Burdick, a brother in law Richard Burdick, both of Conneaut, OH, her extended family Grace Wagner, Rose Powell and her husband Don both of Meadville, Linda Mancinelli and her husband Gary of Chicago, IL, Dale Howles of Meadville, eight nieces and nephews Linda Wires, Mary Jane Crandall, Duane Burdick, Nancy Herb, Patty Jackson, Jullyan Mailliard, Lawrence Mailliard, Sr. and Lawrence Mailliard, Jr.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Creed, Mary was preceded in death a sister Grace Szabo, a brother Jim Phillips, extended family members Stan Shay and Al Shay.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 2, with Rev. Jeffrey Conley, Pastor of Meadville Alliance Church, officiating.

Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Creed, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Conneaut, OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine St., Meadville, PA 16335.
