Marie Jo Pears, 77, of 929 Leslie Rd., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Meadville Medical Center, after a yearlong battle with cancer.
 
Marie was born in Meadville,  on July 22, 1940, a daughter of Madeline P. (Euliano) and the late Patrick L. Simonetta.
 
On July 17, 1971  Marie married Robert "Bob" Pears; he survives.
 
She was a lifetime, active and faithful member of the Catholic Community of Meadville.  Most of those years she was devoted to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church where she volunteered her time, talents and energy serving in various capacities.
 
After more than 40 years of service, Marie retired from Meadville Medical Center as Quality Assurance Director.  For many of those years she served as Medical Records Director.  A graduate of Stephens College, Columbia, MO, Marie was a pioneer of home study education. Earning her online Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Systems, Marie became an inspiration to others with an interest in correspondence study.  She was a 1958 graduate of Meadville High School where she was active with her class reunion committee.  Marie was a member and President of PA State Medical Records Association.  She was also a supporter and member of the board of directors of St. James Haven where she volunteered and was active with resource development.  Marie had a deep love for children and enjoyed volunteering with the Boys Scouts of America, French Creek Council, where over the years, she served as president and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.  This is a distinguished service award for leaders who have had an impact on the lives of youth though their service, self sacrifice and dedication.  Marie will be remembered for her love of faith and family as well as her servant's heart.  She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her mother and her husband, Bob, of  46 years, Marie is survived by three children Mark Frisina and his wife Leslie of Philadelphia, Gina Adams and her husband Mark of Erie, Jason Pears and his wife Rebecca of Guys Mills, seven grandchildren Connor and Claire Frisina, Michael, Jhennifer and Robert Adams, Emmet and Sawyer Pears, a sister Patricia Simonetta of Miami, FL, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
 
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-7 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 6:30 PM.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville,  at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 28,  with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating.
 
Marie will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Marie Pears Scholarship Fund at Seton School, 385 Pine Street or CHAPS Emergency Homeless Assistance Fund, 944 Liberty Street, both in Meadville, PA  16335.
