Marian Orlando

Marian Orlando, 93, of Meadville, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017, surrounded by her family at Meadville Medical Center, following a short illness.

Marian was born in Meadville, PA on September 27, 1923, a daughter of the late Joseph and Girolema (Marchese) Frisina. She was not only the last surviving of their ten children, but also the last surviving, out of 30, first generation Italians, who were the children of three immigrants, one being her father and the other two, his brothers.

Marian was a 1941 graduate of Meadville High School. She married Frank Orlando on September 14, 1946. Following her high school graduation she was employed by the former F. W. Woolworth. She later was employed by the former Talon, Inc., as a separating inspector; a position that she held for 36 years. After her retirement from Talon, she subsequently worked at the former Joseph B. Dahlkemper showroom in Meadville for several years. Marian was a lifelong member of St. Agatha Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Marian enjoyed gardening, especially in her rose garden, quilting, cross stitching and knitting. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe and touring Italy, Greece, England, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia with family and also as a chaperone with the German Travel Club of Meadville High School.

Marian was an excellent homemaker, perfectly baking and cooking great Sicilian cuisine. She loved to host holiday dinners and celebrate family birthdays. Her greatest joy was preparing Sunday dinner for her children and grandchildren. Her most precious times were spent surrounded by her family. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son Anthony "Tony" Orlando (wife Terry) who lives in Canton, OH, daughter Joyce Bunce (husband John) of Meadville, granddaughters Tracy Oxler (husband Jude) of Wichita, KS, great granddaughters Madelyn, Katie, and Audrey Oxler and great grandson Jackson Oxler, granddaughter Lisa Appell (husband Jason) of Omaha, NE, great granddaughters Kennedy and Lakin Appell, grandson Ryan Shaw (wife Jennifer) of Meadville, great granddaughter Sophie Shaw, and grandson Steve Shaw of Meadville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank on August 24, 2016, seven brothers Tony, Gasper, Samuel, John, Phillip, Joseph and Frank Frisina, two sisters Josephine Barretta, Rose Frisina, and a granddaughter Julie Marie Shaw.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Pastor, officiating.

Marian will be laid to rest next to her husband, Frank, in St. Brigid Cemetery. West Mead Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made for Mass intentions to St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, PA 16335 or to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
