Lyle Acker

Lyle Acker, 82, of 20644 Acker Rd., Saegertown, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center.

Lyle was born at home on the family farm in Cussewago Twp. on December 20, 1930, a son of the late Ray A. and Iva (Coon) Acker.

On August 19, 1950 Lyle married Doris L. Hefferman; she survives.

He was a member of Norrisville United Methodist Church.

In 1957 Lyle purchased the family dairy farm where he worked hard every day up until recently. He continued to farm the land long after the dairy cows were sold. Additionally he drove school bus for Harry Boyles and Ralph Smith Transportation for 44 years. Following his 1948 graduation from Cambridge Springs High School, Lyle became employed by the former American Viscose and later by the former GLF as a gas truck driver. Since 1970 Lyle served as a Cussewago Twp. supervisor, also serving as secretary/treasurer. A 50 year member of Hayfield Grange, Lyle served as grange treasurer. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Lyle was a true handyman who was skilled at doing carpentry work and fixing machinery.

In addition to his wife, Doris, of 63 years, Lyle is survived by five children David Lyle Acker and his wife Rose, Mike R. Acker and his wife Judy, Scott B. Acker all of Saegertown, Lorie A. Baker and her husband Jim of Kennett Square, John E. Acker and his wife Debbie of Saegertown, twelve grandchildren Jessica Lewis, Mark Acker, Cole Acker, Clayton Acker, Lucas Acker, Melisa Zimmerman, Nolan Acker, Hayley Acker, Erin Baker, Ryan Baker, Nathan Acker, Kaitlin Powell, eight great grandchildren, a sister Ruth White and her husband Kenneth of Saegertown, a brother Donald Acker of Waynesboro, VA, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by three sisters Eloise Toboz, Esther Wright and Arlene Campbell.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 20, his 83rd birthday, with Rev. Russell D. Hines, Pastor of Norrisville United Methodist Church, officiating.

Lyle will be laid to rest in Reichel Cemetery, Cussewago Twp.
