Karal Tomiczek, 83, of 19675 Collier Dr., Meadville, passed away Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at Meadville Medical Center.
Karal was born in Springdale on September 20, 1928, a son of the late John and Anna (Lanc) Tomiczek.
On June 18, 1951 Karal married Eleanor May Thompson; she survives.
He was a member of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, Saegertown.
In 1991 Karal retired from PPG industries where he had worked since moving to Meadville in 1968. He had previously been employed by Cemline Corporation in Springdale for many years. A US Army veteran, Karal was drafted on January 2, 1951 and served his country until his honorable discharge on December 13, 1956. A strong athlete, Karal played semi-professional football in the late 1950s for the Creighton Tigers for more than three years. He was a 1946 graduate of Springdale High School where he was involved with the sport of boxing not only in high school, but also after high school and while in the Army. During these years, he participated in the Golden Gloves boxing championships. An avid sportsman, Karal loved playing and watching sports, especially his Steelers and Pirates. He also enjoyed music, singing, dancing and playing cards, especially Pinochle and Euchre.
In addition to his wife, Eleanor, of nearly 61 years, Karal leaves behind three sons Mark and his wife Julie of Kittanning, Lance and his wife Judy of San Antonio, TX, Steve and his wife Chris of Cambridge Springs, seven grandchildren, one great grandson a brother Joseph of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Karal was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
Funeral Services will be held at Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, 358 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 23rd, with Pastor Kelly Nelson officiating.
