Joseph B. Damico, 87, of 9018 State Hwy. 198, Conneautville, passed away Sunday, July 29th, 2012 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville.
Joe was born in Meadville on April 13, 1925, a son of the late Steve and Ernestine (Carvella) Damico.
On November 14, 1947, Joe married Martha H. Hammermeister; she preceded him in death on June 3, 2006.
He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church and the former Holy Name Society.
From May of 1954 until June 30, 1985, Joe was employed by the City of Meadville. In January of 1963 he was appointed Superintendent of Parks. Following his retirement from the City, Joe worked part time during the summers at Conneaut Lake Park. He had previously been employed by the former American Viscose, the former Talon, Inc., Green and Baker as well as Westinghouse. A US Navy veteran during WW II, Joe served his country from July 14, 1943 until his honorable discharge on February 22, 1946. During this time he sailed abroad a Navy troop ship transporting troops to both theaters of WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #111 and a lifetime member of VFW Post #2006. He enjoyed going to church, dancing, going out to dinner and spending the winters in Wauchula, Florida.
Joe is survived by a sister Lucy D. Kline of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, Martha, of 58 years, Joe was preceded in death by three brothers Frank, Tony and Charles Damico, four sisters Martha Grippo, Josephine Trucco, Mary Grace Miller and Gloria Richardson.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 3-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where an American Legion Service will be conducted at 6:30 PM followed by a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 2, at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, with Fr. Mark Solomon, Pastor, officiating.
Entombment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, PA 16335.
