John Hovenac

John Hovenac, 89, of 15518 Harmonsburg Rd., Meadville, passed away Thursday, March 1st, 2012, at Meadville Rehab. & Nursing Center.
John was born in Adelaide on June 20, 1922, a son of the late John and Susan (Petrenchik) Hovenac Boyles.
On October 30, 1948 John married Mary Funciello, she survives.
After 44 years of service, John retired from the Shipping Department of the former Avtex Corp. He attended St. Brigid School. A veteran of World War II, US Army, John was a member of the 9th Armored Division where he was stationed in Central Europe, Ardennes and the Rhineland. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, EAME Theatre Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the WW II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on January 10, 1946. A history enthusiast, John loved watching the History Channel and reading about historical events.
In addition to his wife Mary of 63 years, John is survived by two sons Robert Hovenac of Meadville, Ed Hovenac and his wife Mary of Springboro, OH, two sisters Elaine Beard and her husband Ed of Moore, OK, Phylli Hastings of Meadville, three grandchildren Laura, Katie and Brian Hovenac, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral Services, with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday with Fr. Johnathon Schmolt, Pastor of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Interment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
