Joanne Marie Mcclay

Joanne Marie McClay, 74, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Embassy of Park Ave.

Joanne was born in Meadville, on October 4, 1947, a daughter of the late Arnold and Pauline (Kastel) Irlam.

On July 24, 1971 Joanne married Edward L. McClay; he survives.

A lifetime member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Joanne was also a lifetime member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court #2, and was awarded a plaque in 2017.

Joanne retired in 2005 from the Intermediate Unit #5 (I.U.) where she had been employed for 35 years. During the 2000-2001 school year, she was honored with the Golden Apple Teachers Award. A 1965 graduate of Meadville Area High School, Joanne furthered her education by graduating from Edinboro College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education. She was a member of the Embroiderers' Guild of America (EGA), and a social member of Veterans of the Vietnam War Post #52. She enjoyed embroidering and stitching and was happy to share her finished works with family and friends. Joanne's greatest joy came from the time spent with her grandchildren Aubrey and Bryce. Whether they were camping as a family or attending one of the many soccer or baseball games, these memories provided some of the greatest happiness in Joanne's life.

In addition to her husband, Ed, of 51 years, Joanne is survived by a son Matthew David McClay (Melissa) of Harborcreek, her grandchildren Aubrey and Bryce McClay of Harborcreek, a sister Judy Irlam Davis (Lamar "Chaz") of Cambridge Springs, nephew Jeffrey Norton (Stacey), great niece Isabella.

Family and close friends are invited to visit from 3-5 PM on Friday, August 5, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a C.D. of A. Service will be held at 4 PM. A Mass of Resurrection will follow at 5 PM with Fr. Jeff Lucas officiating.
