Joan I. Hughes, 79, of 9108 State Hwy. 198, Conneautville, formerly of 22203 Fisher Rd., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville.
Joan was born at home in Townville, on October 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Chester and Lottie (Wycoff) Fleek.
On September 5, 1959 Joan married Thomas E. Hughes; he preceded her in death on October 30, 1999.
In 1994 Joan retired from Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community where she had been employed in the dietary department for 19 years. She had previously been employed by the former David Mead Inn as a waitress, by the former Westinghouse and by the former Good Pie Factory. She was of the Protestant faith and a graduate of the former Townville High School. A very loyal Pittsburgh Steeler fan, Joan also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing on TV, crocheting and collecting angels; she had collected over 100 special angels. Joans greatest joy was spending time with all of her nieces and nephews.
Joan is survived by several nieces and nephews including caregiver and niece Karen OConnor Hanna of Jamestown, caregiver and nephew Michael P. OConnor of Meadville, several great nieces, great nephews and many cousins.
In addition to her parents and her husband Thomas of 40 years, Joan was preceded in death by two brothers Karl 'Bob' Fleek, Earl Fleek, three sisters Mary Lou Antill, Autumn Manross and Elois OConnor.
At Joans request, a private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will take place in Venango Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
