Jean Carol Lundahl

Jean Carol (Nystrom) Lundahl, 86, of Meadville, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

Jean was born in Braddock, PA, on October 5, 1937, daughter of the late Clarence and Thursa (Pifer) Nystrom.

On May 3, 1958, Jean married Richard Lundahl at First Presbyterian Church in Meadville.  He preceded her in death on September 8, 2023.

She was an active, longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville.

Jean was a graduate of Meadville High School, Class of 1955, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad, the Rainbow Girls, and was active with Student Government, Alpha Gamma, Student Court, Student Council, Honor Club, Club Radio, and Class Show.  She went on to earn an Associate Degree from Grove City College in 1957.

In 1958, Jean and Richard moved to Scotland, where he served as an Officer in the U.S. Air Force, and she worked for the Wing Commander at RAF Prestwick.

After their time in Scotland, Jean and Richard returned to Meadville.  She enjoyed being a full-time homemaker until her sons Paul and Bob began school, at which time she started a career at Allegheny College.  She retired after more than 30 years of service, primarily in the Admissions Office.  During those working years, her expert calligraphy was on thousands of sport certificates, awards and diplomas for the students.

Not one to remain idle, she worked an additional 15 years for the City of Meadville as the receptionist, retiring in 2014.  She loved talking to people who called City Hall.  Over those years, she also helped her husband Richard in the family business, the former Isaly's Store on North Street in Meadville.

Jean was active with her Class Reunion Committee, planning frequent trips with a large group of her high school friends.  She cherished the time talking to her dear childhood friend Joy (Ovington) Wilson for hours on end on the phone. She enjoyed skiing, knitting, shopping, attending her book club, traveling, and she was an avid supporter of Allegheny Athletics.

Jean will be remembered for her love of animals, the ability to care for the less fortunate, and always treating everyone she met as the most important person in the world.  Jean’s love for and devotion to her family remain a lesson in how to live a good life.

Jean is survived by two sons: Paul R. Lundahl (Claudia) of Dublin, OH, and Dr. Robert E. Lundahl (Kimberly Samson) of San Francisco, CA; she is further survived by a beloved brother, Donald Nystrom, of Pittsburgh.  Finally, Jean will be remembered by her sons as the kindest, most loving, supportive, and forgiving person.

Public visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

Private services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024.  The service will be livestreamed via the Facebook page of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.

Jean will be laid to rest with her husband, Richard, in Greendale Cemetery.
