James A. Bailey

James A. Bailey of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Meadville, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019, in Waxhaw, NC.

James was born on February 16, 1933 in Meadville, PA, the son of the late Dr. Oakland King and Susan Elizabeth (McBride) Bailey.
 
Jim graduated from Meadville High School Class of 1951.  He attended Allegheny College from 1951 to 1953.  Jim volunteered for the army in 1954 and served in Germany, honorably discharged in 1956. He then graduated from Kent State University Class of 1958 majoring in Journalism and Political Science.
 
Jim was a public relations executive in Ohio, Michigan and Texas for Fortune 500 companies including Figgie International and Coastal Corp. for 40 years.   During his career he won numerous awards for annual reports and publications including the Freedom Founders Award. 
 
Jim served as an adult volunteer leader for the Boy Scouts of America for more than 25 years holding positions at Troop, Council and National levels. He also served in leadership positions in neighborhood boards. Jim was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC.  He was active in the Knights of Columbus where he was recognized as Golden Knight of the Year in 2016.   Prior to that he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Houston, Texas where he was also an active volunteer. He was a member of the American Legion. 
 
In retirement Jim really enjoyed swimming, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends.  He especially looked forward to reunions with his Meadville friends "The Troopers". 
 
Jim will be greatly missed by his three children Steven (Anna) Bailey of Charleston, SC, Kathleen Bailey of Charlotte, NC and Dan Bailey of Birmingham, AL.  He was blessed with five grandchildren Eddie Kalaf, James Kalaf, Audrey Kalaf, Sims Bailey and Drew Bailey.  He is also survived by his in-laws Veronica and Bob Theuret of Saegertown, PA and sister in laws Betty Bailey of York, PA, Wilma Bailey of Franklin, PA and  Georgie Jean Bailey of Dunlap, TN.  Jim is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He enjoyed a special friendship with his niece from Houston TX, Janet Roarty.
 
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve (Eiseman) Bailey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Oakland King Jr. Bailey, Harold Bailey, Marian Bailey Hyman, William Bailey and Donald Bailey.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 11, 2019 from 3-5 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 4:30 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St. Meadville, with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.

Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife, Genevieve, in Standing Rock Cemetery, Kent, OH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to Lamb Foundation of NC, 6420-A1 Rea Road-Suite 312, Charlotte, NC 28277 or to your favorite charity.
