Harriet (Payne) Trucco

Harriet Payne Trucco, 90, of 1167 Water Street, Meadville, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, after a short term stay at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

She was born in Spring Township, Conneautville, on July 28, 1932. Harriet is the daughter of the late Ralph and Iva (Clark) Payne.


After World War II, she married Anthony John Trucco (US Marine) at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1999.


Harriet was a member of the ICC Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Altar Rosary Society, Meadville Multi-Listing Service and National Association of Realtors. She received her Beauty license from Michael’s Beauty Academy.


In Harriet’s early years, she was raised on the family’s farm where her father had a sawmill for his lumber business. At the age of 12, her sister asked her to come to Meadville to watch her seven year old son for a year so she could go to work and she stayed the year. She had an opportunity to work for Bob and Grace Burkhardt. She was a companion for Bob’s mother, Caroline Burkhardt. After working for the Burkhardt family, she moved to the YWCA residence for young women.


Harriet was a beautician in Meadville, Cochranton and Carlisle. She had also worked at GC Murphy’s and the Viscose Plant.


In 1950, her husband opened an Insurance and Real Estate Office, Trucco Agency, at 1167 Water Street, Meadville. Harriet joined the business and eventually became a Broker of Record, retiring in 2000. Prior to her retirement, she and her husband were joined by their two sons, John and George, in the Insurance and Real Estate business. Harriet was one of the first women in Crawford County to hold Broker Licenses in Insurance and Real Estate. She attended numerous classes in Insurance and Real Estate. She was very proud of finding a new location for the Women’s Shelter. She enjoyed assisting family and friends in filing for FMHA loans. Harriet enjoyed music and attended many concerts and square dances. She was raised on Country music but also liked many POP artists.

She was always at home for her children. She attended school activities and the PTA for her children’s elementary years. She was strongly devoted to her family and loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and extended family.


She is survived by four children George Trucco, Emmaline Trucco, Tinamarie Trucco and Guido Trucco of Meadville; and two daughter in laws, Bonnie (Krzyniak) Trucco of Moon Township, and Susan (Simmerman) Trucco of Meadville. She is survived by three grandchildren, Alecia Trucco of Moon Township, Air Force Major Anthony Trucco of Charleston, SC and George Trucco of Meadville. She is survived by her brothers-in-law, James Duratz of Meadville, Sebastian Paul of Illinois and Larry Kowalski of Erie.


A special thank you to Harriet’s long- time physician, Dr. Robert Bazylak of Conneaut Lake. He was kind and caring through her health journey.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Anthony Trucco and Sebastian James Trucco. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Sebastian Trucco and her step mother in law Josephine Trucco, and her mother in law Emmaline Barco, and her step father in law, George Barco, Esq.; her sisters in law, Yolanda Barco, Esq., Helene Barco Duratz, Angeline (Jean) Trucco Perricone, Christine Trucco Kowalski, brother in law Vito Perrricone and niece Marie Perricone. In addition, Harriet was preceded in death by six sisters, Iva Midkiff, Sara Knepp, Elizabeth Ferry, Isabell Sherman, Marian Randall and an infant sister, Rose Payne. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Augustus (Gus), Walter, Clyde and Ralph Payne.  She was predeceased by sister in laws Bernice, Gloria and Margaret Payne and Marie Payne Weaver. She was predeceased by brother in laws, Herman Knepp, Norvin Ferry, Bill Sherman, Charles Midkiff, and Merl Randall.


She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine (Babe) Adair spends a great deal of time with the Trucco family. She cooks many dinners for her Aunt Harriet and her family. Babe remembers the good times she had at the beach with her sister Marie and her Uncle Anthony and Aunt Harriet as little girls.


Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, St. Mary of Grace Catholic Church, 1085 Water Street, Meadville, where a mass will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating.


Harriet will be laid to rest next to her Husband, Anthony, and close to her two sons, John Anthony Trucco and Sebastian James Trucco. She will be laid to rest at St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Township.

After the mass, a luncheon will be provided at St. Mary’s Social Center.


Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home, 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
