H. Loyd 'Mitch' Mitchell, 87, of 10198 Circle W., Lot 94, Meadville, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014, at Park Avenue Rehab. & Nursing Center, Meadville.

Mitch was born in Meadville on November 19, 1926, a son of the late Harry and Edith (Fullerton) Mitchell.

On July 10, 1982 Mitch married JoAnn Roda; she survives.

He was affiliated with St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

In 1946 Mitch began his career with the Railroad, retiring from Conrail in 1990. Additionally he delivered airplanes and was an instructor for Meadville Airport, retiring in 2004. Mitch loved the time he spent flying solo as well as with students as it was his passion. A veteran of WW II, Mitch entered the US Army on February 9, 1945 and served his country until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1946. He was a graduate of Meadville High School. Mitch was a member of Vernon Central, the ICC Club, Taylor Hose Co. and VFW Post #2006 where he retired from the Color Guard Detail.

In addition to his wife JoAnn of 32 years, Mitch is survived by three children Karen Habada and her husband John, Eleanor Rush and her companion Ted Szalewicz both of Meadville, Thomas Mitchell of Farmington, OH, two grandchildren Veronica Nicholas and her husband Andrew, Matthew Rush, two great grandchildren Ava and Jackson, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Theresa and John Amato of Meadville, nieces and nephew Gina Amato, John Mark Amato and his wife Terry, Kathleen Knapp and her husband Dr. Christopher Knapp all of Meadville, great nieces and nephews Andrew Amato, Kayleigh Cirka and her husband Brian, Joseph Amato and his wife Jen, Teresa Maloney and her husband Keith, Elizabeth Fehle and her husband Bo, Gina Amato, Monica Knapp, Dominic Knapp, Matt Knapp, Michael Knapp, Johnna Knapp, great great nephews Joshua Cirka, Gabe Maloney, special friends Don Beier, Mike Travis, John Truran, Matt Aultz, Bill Lawrence, Bob Burns, his flying buddies Eddie Alexitos, Ed Maxwell, Micky Mitchell, Howard Stewart and Todd Bailey.

In addition to his parents, Mitch was preceded in death by his father in law and mother in law Dominic and Josephine Roda, his flying buddies Bob Rigby and Larry Lobdell.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 14, 2014, with Fr. Joe Kalinowski of St. John Parish in Tidioute officiating.

Following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, Mitch will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

JoAnn would like to give special thanks to Theresa Amato, Gina Amato, Linda (Sissy) Stellato, Rose Marie Lynch as well as the Nursing Staff of Park Avenue Rehab and Nursing Center, the 2nd Floor Nursing Staff of Meadville Medical Center, and Dr. Zelen, Dr. McLaughlin and Dr. Mercurio for the kind and loving care shown to Mitch during his illness.
