Gino A. Zappia, 74, of 1401 Halstead Ave., Norfolk, VA, formerly of 12747 Vernon Street, Meadville, passed away Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 at Autumn Care of Norfolk, VA.
Gino was born in Ardore, Italy on February 21, 1938, a son of the late Dominick and Caterina (Roda) Zappia.
On October 23, 1966 he married Maria A. Bergamaschi; she survives.
While living in Meadville, he was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
In his earlier years, Gino had worked as a Security Guard for Allegheny College and Conneaut Lake Park. He previously had been employed by the former Avtex Corp. While living in Italy, he worked for the Stipel Phone Company and had served in the Italian Army for two years. Gino was a life member of Vernon Twp. Fire Hall. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife Maria of 46 years, Gino is survived by two sons Robert D. Zappia of Virginia Beach, VA, Daniel V. Zappia and his wife Kimberly of Conneautville, three grandchildren Shawnees M. Zappia, Alex V. Zappia, Ashley J. Zappia, a step grandson Dylan Kaczmorski, a sister Theresa Zappia, a brother Joseph Zappia both of Meadville, numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gino was preceded in death by a sister Marie Hughes.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, at 10:00 M on Saturday, May 19, 2012, with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in St. Agatha Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
