Gerald Edward Butterworth, 76, of 15886 Wagner Dr., Meadville, passed away Monday, April 25th, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.
Gerald was born in Memphis, TN on November 30, 1934, a son of the late Jessie Palmer and Mary Jewel (Pennington) Butterworth.
On February 15, 1958 Gerald married Judith 'Judy' C. Eileen Caskey; she survives.
After 40 years of employment with the railroad, Gerald retired in 1996 as an Engineer from C.S.X. Railroad. He had previously been employed by Erie Lackawanna and Conrail. He graduated from high school in Nashville, TN. A veteran of the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, Gerald served his country from July 22, 1953 until his honorable discharge on July 21, 1956. Over the years he had been a member of the Meadville Club and of Meadville V.F.W. Post #2006. His hobbies included golfing, fishing and he had a love for animals, especially dogs and birds. Gerald will be missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Judy of 53 years, Gerald is survived by four children Jeffrey Butterworth of Saegertown and his fianc Wanda Hunter, Anita Rathbun and her husband Gene of Goshen, OH, Gerald 'Jasper' K. Butterworth and his wife Kim of Cincinnati, OH, Laurie Motzing and her husband Robert of Meadville, two grandchildren Brittany K. Butterworth, Ashley E. Butterworth, a sister Reba Durham and her husband Harold of Columbus, GA, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother Jack Butterworth.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 29th, 2011, with Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor of Saegertown United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery.
