Gerald Dwain Newcomer, 59, of 477 North St. Meadville, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
Gerald was born in Connesville, on October 12, 1950, a son of the late Millard J. and Geraldine (Mitchell) Newcomer.
On March 25, 1989 Gerald married Doris I. Martin; she survives.
Gerald was a veteran of the US Marines. He attended schools in North Collins, NY. Over the years Gerald had been employed by Hadley Recycling, a tomato factory in Florida and had done some traveling and working with carnivals. He enjoyed the computer, mechanics and wood working but his greatest joy came from playing with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Doris of 20 years, Gerald is survived by two step-children Elaine A. Butler and her boyfriend Scott Frantz of Harmonsburg, George Hirt and his girlfriend Joanna of Meadville, 14 step grandchildren, a sister Donna Console of NY, two brothers Millard E. Newcomer of Floral City, FL, John W. Newcomer and his wife Sara of Big Pine Key, FL, a son-in-law James Butler Jr. and his wife Heide of Meadville, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a grandson Zack Butler and a nephew.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 11-1 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Park Ave., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM with Bishop Michael David Welter, officiating.
Internement with full military honors by VFW #2006 will be held at Venango Cemetery, Venango.
Arrangments are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
