G. Don Wilson

G. Don Wilson, 86, of Saegertown, passed away Thursday, January, 21, 2021, at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA.

Don was born in Meadville, on July 22, 1934, a son of the late George R. and Ann (Axtell) Wilson.

On June 12, 1954 Don married Doris J. DeVore; she survives.

Don was known as being hard-working, entrepreneurial, quick with a joke, and extremely gregarious. He owned and operated his own trucking and excavating business, TAW Trucking, named after his first grandson Todd Andrew Wilson. He provided hauling services for several businesses, including Lord Corporation for close to 30 years. He also owned and operated Shady Acres Mobile Home Park in Vernon Township for over 25 years which he purchased from his father.

Don was always willing to help a friend or the Saegertown Community with his excavating expertise. He was intregral to building and maintaining the Saegertown American Legion Fields Complex on Erie Street. Often he could be found donating his time grooming the complex with his long-time friend, Ed Acker. One of Don's greatest enjoyments was time spent at the baseball diamond, whether coaching or watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren play.

Don was a 1952 graduate of Saegertown High School. He was a member of the Saegertown American Legion Post #205 and a former member of the Meadville Elks and Eagles Clubs. Don was a diehard fan of all Cleveland sports teams. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling.

In addition to his wife Doris of 66 years Don is survived by his son Jeff Wilson and his daughter Cindy Wilson both of Saegertown; three grandsons Todd Andrew Wilson of Austin, TX, twins Tyler Matthew Wilson (Casey) of Meadville and Troy Donovan Wilson of Conneaut Lake; two great grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Kayden and Matthew Wilson; two sisters Mary Beth Degolier of Eldridge and Joyce Butterfield of Meadville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by a sister Connie Stouffer.

Don leaves an enduring legacy of a loving family and innumerable acquaintances scattered throughout the country, in every small town and truck stop at which he invariably spared a few moments of his time to crack a joke impart a bit of wisdom, or simply befriend a complete stranger, brightening their day with his easy-going convivial nature.
