Frederick "Fred" Lewis Hood

Frederick Lewis Hood, 79, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, passed away there on Friday, July 31, 2020.

He was born in Meadville, on May 12, 1941, a son of the late Charles and Pauline (Gregg) Hood. He was raised on the family farm on Williamson Road in the Neason Hill area.

A 1959 graduate of Meadville High School, Fred also received a certification in electronics from American Television Electronics School. A veteran of the US Navy, he served his country honorably for four years as a sonar technician on a mine sweeper with a home port at Charleston, SC. Fred went on to become employed as a Project Engineer at Elgin Electronics in Waterford and Erie, for more than 20 years; and operated his own television repair business. He attended Edinboro University and in 1993 earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. He was the first member of his family to graduate from college. He went on to gain employment with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in Harrisburg as a Computer System Analyst, retiring in 2006. In his younger days, he served as a junior counselor at the Meadville YMCA Camp on Pymatuning Lake. In addition to being skilled in electronics, Fred was a skilled carpenter and with the help of his family and friends, he constructed his own two story home on Williamson Road in Meadville. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of Meadville Masonic Lodge #234 and a former active member of Meadville Elks Lodge. He attended Grace United Methodist Church.

Fred was married to the former Patrichia "Pat" Ammann who preceded him in death on December 23, 2018.

He is survived by three daughters Karen L. Custard (Steve) of Conneaut Lake, Rhonda L. Woodrow (Russ), Traci A. Clark (Tim, Sr.), a son Robert C. Hood, all of Meadville, nine grandchildren Cass Custard, Codi Custard (Emily), Ty Custard, Russell Woodrow, Roy Ammann Woodrow, Kira Hood, Robert L. Hood, Tim Clark, Jr., Ashley Clark, three great grandchildren Krichel, Paytyn, Elliot and another due in December. He is further survived by a brother Ronald Hood of Andover, CT, a sister Alberta Worth (Duane) of Beaverton, OR, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by two brothers Charles Hood, George Hood and his former wife Patrichia "Pat" Hood.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with a Masonic Lodge Service at 7 PM, and the Funeral Service on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Philip Torre of First Assembly of God officiating. CDC guidelines will be followed. The service will be live streamed via our Facebook page (Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.)

Frederick will be laid to rest Greendale Cemetery with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.
