Emma Louella Barco, 91, of 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, formerly of Barco Rd., Meadville, went to live in eternity with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Emma was born in Meadville, on October 4, 1923, a daughter of the late Fletcher Lawrence and Gertrude Elizabeth (Laver) Spencer. Her spiritual birthday was Sept. 30, 1971.

On June 24, 1945 Emma married Samuel H. Barco; he preceded her in death on May 18, 2004.

She was affiliated with St. John's Community Church of God, Meadville.

After 22 years of service Emma retired in 1972 from Sears-Robuck where she had been the store manager since 1956. From 1941-1945 she had been employed as a long distance operator for Bell Telephone. Emma volunteered as Youth Camp Director for United Brethren in Sandusky, OH for seven years. She was a 1941 graduate of Meadville High School. Emma was not only a member, but also one of the founders of the Crawford County Care Center Auxiliary where she held positions in all of the offices. She was a past member of the former Meadville City Hospital Auxiliary, and a past member and president of Meadville AGLOW. Emma was instrumental in bringing the National Day of Prayer to the Meadville area. In 1997 she was given the PA County Homes Volunteer of the Year Award. Emma would always comment "Her greatest joys in life were her husband, her grandsons and her God".

Emma is survived by a son Kit P. Barco and his wife Gloria of Harmonsburg, a daughter Brenda Schoonover and her husband Jerry of Meadville, two grandsons Todd P. Schoonover of Meadville, Samuel E. Barco of Harmonsburg, two brothers Bruce Howard Spencer and his wife Nancy, Larry Spencer and his wife Ruth both of Meadville, a brother in law William (Bill) Barco of Girard, OH, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband Samuel of 58 years, Emma was preceded in death by a grandson Travis Barco, three brothers James E., Lyle G. and Daniel L. Spencer, two sisters Laretta Sherrod and Alice Mae Spencer.

The family expresses appreciation and gratitude to the Crawford County Care Center staff for their compassionate care and kindness.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at St. John's Community Church of God, 7474 Mercer Pike, Meadville, where Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM with Rev. Jamey Huselton, officiating.

Interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Union Twp.

In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Crawford County Care Center Auxiliary, 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, PA 16433, or Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
