Dorothy Mae Jackson, age 88, a resident of Winter Park, Florida passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, FL, following a brief illness.

Dorothy was born in Meadville, on May 18, 1926 to John Wilbur Lucas and Martha DeCourcey-Lucas and was an only child.

She married James Franklin Jackson on February 14, 1953.

Dorothy graduated from Meadville High School and then attended Fisk College.

She retired as a supervisor from the Department of Public Welfare after 20+ years. She traveled widely, enjoying such destinations as Japan, Germany, Great Britain, and Ghana. Exposure to cultures in diverse parts of the world made her a beacon of love and support to several foreign exchange students as well as many others whom she took under her wing.

Sewing, knitting, and needlework are among the crafts that Dorothy enjoyed gifting to friends and family. She offered her time and heart through serving in roles for Meals on Wheels, God’s Love We Deliver, and held membership in Eastern Star.

Dorothy is survived by her children Jim, Jackie, Debra Jo, and Pam, and her daughter-in-law Denise, and granddaughter, Nicole. She also leaves a wide range of cousins and extended family throughout the nation: Marge, Joseph, and Raymond Woods; Rudy and Mary Lucas; Laura Lindsey and Carolyn Davis, her in-laws in North Carolina.

Predeceasing her were her parents Wilbur and Martha, husband James F. Jackson, son Michael, aunts and uncles: Leona, Ethel, Marguerite, Olive, Marion, Kenneth and Gladys Lucas and their spouses; cousin and life-long friend Jacqueline Penman, and cousin John Chinn.

A memorial service celebrating a life well-lived will be held in Meadville in the spring/summer, at a time and date which will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel AME Church, 961 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
