Mrs. Dorothy Bowman, 99, of 95 Doughty Road, Meadville, passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 at Wesbury United Methodist Community.

Mrs. Bowman was born in Cochranton on September 9, 1917, the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Florence (Crookham) Murdoch.

On June 12, 1936, she married J. Clifford Bowman; he preceded her in death on January 30, 1996.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville.

In 1958 Dorothy and her husband Cliff founded the Meadville Area Ambulance Service which they owned and operated for 31 years. For 70 years Dorothy served as the secretary for the Cochranton Grange where she was a charter member. She also was a member of the Crawford County Pomona Grange, a life member of the PA State Grange and a member of the National Grange.

A life member of the Eastern Star, Dorothy was the former treasurer of the Golden Crown Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a past Worthy Priestess of The Trinity White Shrine of Meadville, a past Royal Matron and a past District Deputy of The Allegheny Court of the Amarath and The Zonta Club. She was also a former member of the Kismet Grottoettes. Additionally she had been a member of the Meadville Lioness Club and of the Meadville Elks #219 Auxiliary. Over the years Dorothy volunteered countless hours of her time at the Meadville Soup Kitchen, at the Home Show Building of the Crawford County Fair, at the Wesbury Gift Shop and working at the Polls during elections. She loved playing cards.

Dorothy is survived by a daughter Donna Plants and her husband Robert of Lake Latonka, a son Larry Bowman of Montana, ten grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, a brother Lynne K. Murdoch of Cavite City, Philippines, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband of 59 years, she was preceded in death by a daughter Florence Hughes, a son David Bowman, two infant grandsons, a granddaughter, a great great granddaughter, two brothers Clarence (Bill) Murdoch, John K. Murdoch, three sisters Eloise Weser, Martha Peterson and Margaret Martin.

Family and friends are invited to call Friday, January 6, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where the Order of The Eastern Star will conduct a service at 3:30 PM, and where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM with Dr. Brian Jensen, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Clifford, in Cochranton Cemetery, Cochranton.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street or Wesbury United Methodist Community Foundation, 31 N. Park Ave., both in Meadville, PA 16335.
