Dita Geffen

Dita Geffen was born in 1926, the daughter of David and Eda Borofsky.

The family lived in Jerusalem, where David worked as an agriculturalist developing hybrid fruit trees and running a small family farm, and Eda was a well respected educator, eventually serving as a school principal.

Dita married Sidney Geffen in 1951 and raised four children including Talia Cohen (NY), Jeremy Geffen and Amara Geffen of Meadville. The family resided in Utica, NY until 1972 when Dita moved to NYC. Over the next 17 years Dita worked as a loving and innovative kindergarten teacher. In 1989 she moved to Escondido, CA, with her partner Gerald Grant. In 2008 she moved to Meadville, PA, and became a resident at Wesbury, where she lived until her death on April 12, 2018.

Dita was an impeccable homemaker, gifted artist, devoted mother and a natural teacher. Her silver was always polished and her linen closets were infamous among her friends. If anyone knew the secret to perfectly folded fitted sheets it surely was Dita. Her gardens in California brought beauty and joy into her life, and were as carefully tended and colorful as her collages, classrooms, and homes. She loved dance, music, and the arts, and encouraged her children and grandchildren in these pursuits.

Dita was preceded in death by her parents, her former husbands Josef Levijan, Sidney Geffen, and Gerald Grant, a young brother Uzi Borofsky, and her son Dr. Jeremy Geffen.

She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, four grandchildren, twin great grandchildren, and a brother-in-law. Dita was greatly loved not only by her family but by the many people she had known throughout her life.

A private family service was held by her daughters on April 14.
