Deloris Jeanne Hanes

Deloris Jeanne Hanes, 81, of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Crawford County Care Center.

Deloris was born in Shinnston, WV, on September 17, 1941, a daughter of the late Richard P. Thompson and Faye (Tichenor) Novotny.

On September 21, 1959, Jeanne married Joseph "Terry" Hanes; he preceded her in death on December 23, 2020; he was the love of her life.

She was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church.

Over the years Jeanne had been employed by Associated Charities helping families with a variety of needs, as a retail manager, and as a jewelry store associate where she knew her diamonds as well as anyone. Additionally she had her own business, "Gifts of Distinction" where she created and sold unique, one of a kind gifts including guardian angels and dolls made by "A. Nanny". She was a 1959 graduate of Meadville High School. Jeanne was a member of the Meadville Kiwanis, Kismet Grotto and Meadville Elks Lodge #219 where she was involved in many community activities. She was known as Nanny Hanes to the preschoolers of Seton School where she read to the children. Jeanne delighted in being a homemaker and raising her family. She loved cooking for them and her vegetable soup was second to none. She was always in the stands supporting her children in all they did. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, having won several Blue Ribbons. Whether she thought so, or not, Jeanne was a gifted artist. She loved to paint and placed in several local art shows. Her green thumb and appreciation for nature produced lovely flower gardens that were her pride and joy. She loved working in her yard, being in the woods, watching the wildlife, especially the deer and their fawns. She also loved reading, going second hand shopping at the Salvation Army, traveling with friends, and she adored her Maine Coon cats Harley and Sophie. Jeanne will be most remembered as a talented, wonderful and loving wife, mother, Nanny and friend. She will be sadly missed.

Jeanne is survived by two children Debra L. Grahm (Roger) of Chillicothe, OH, Michael Hanes (Joan) of Edmond, OK; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; extended family including cousin Janet Weir, aunt Norma Thompson, and special friend Martha Blair. A special thanks to Janet, Norma and Martha for their love and support.

In addition to her parents, and her husband Terry, of 62 years, Jeanne was preceded in death by a son C. Tracy Hanes.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
