David Henry Mead

David Henry Mead, 97, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 660 Cullum St., Meadville, passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

David was born in Meadville, on September 6, 1920, a son of the late Lloyd and Marie (Moffett) Mead, Sr.

On February 15, 1943 David married Helen Harden; she preceded him in death on November 27, 1997.

Over the years David had been employed by the Erie Railroad, the former American Viscose Corp. and Conneaut Lake Park before retiring in 1986 as Technical Director of the Raymond P. Shafer Auditorium of Allegheny College. A WW II veteran, David entered the US Navy on July 2, 1942 and served his country honorably until his discharge on October 8, 1945. He was a graduate of Meadville High School. David was a member of the Elks Club BPOE #219, Crawford Masonic Lodge # 408 and the Erie Shriners Zem Zem Temple. He volunteered much of his time in his later years as Transportation Coordinator for the Shriners Children's Hospital Patient Transportation in Crawford County.

David is survived by two sons Dennis Mead and his wife Donna of Erie, Gary Mead of Galax, VA, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Helen of 54 years, David was preceded in death by a sister Jean Marie Wickum, two step sisters, a brother Wallace Mead and two step brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 5, from 11-1 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Masonic Service will be held at noon and Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Conley of Meadville Alliance Church officiating

Following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, David will be laid to rest next to his wife, Helen, in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
