David Charles Byers

David Charles Byers, 78, of 11605 Hunters Ridge Blvd, Apt. 2, Meadville, passed away Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010 at Meadville Medical Center.
David was born in Washington on July 26, 1931, a son of the late Herschel O. and Ruth A. (Fields) Byers.
On July 2, 1992 David married Shirley Anne Miller Chimiak; she survives. He previously was married to Beverly Ann Salchow.
A member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, Meadville, David had sung in the church choir, served on the Bereavement Committee and served as an Eucharist Minister. While living in the Guys Mills area, he was a member of St. Hippolytes Church and sang in the church choir. He had been active in the Cursillo Movement and was a member of The Association of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
In 1983 David retired from the Maintenance Dept. of Penn State, Behrend, Erie, after several years of service. He previously had been employed as a chef at several Erie area restaurants including the former Ricardos Restaurant and the former Hearth Restaurant. A veteran of the US Navy, David served his country from December 29, 1950 until his honorable discharge on July 23, 1953. He had attended Washington High School. A lifetime member of VFW Post #2006, David was also a member of the American Legion both in Cambridge Springs and Cochranton. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan and an excellent cook. He enjoyed eating out and traveling with his wife, Shirley.
In addition to his wife Shirley of 17 years, David is survived by six children Melissa Byers Bonamino Harrig of Erie, Cecilia Chimiak Compton and her husband Ronnie of NC, Robert Chimiak of Hadley, Richard Chimiak and his wife Diane of Meadville, Daniel Chimiak of Grove City, Theresa Chimiak of Meadville, 11 grandchildren Leesa and Nicole Bonamino, Matthew Werner, Rebecca Michael, David Ramey, Shelby, Zane, Aaron, Jacob, Myah Chimiak, Andreanna Burnett, four great grandchildren Cladia Rose Werner, Clayton Werner, Elise Olivia Michael, Elton Quinn Michael, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers Herschel and Ivan Byers, seven sisters Opal Mull, Vera Sayre, Naomi Ruschell, Patricia Maggard, Carol Lanham, Arlene Byers and Dorothy Carroll.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335 where a scripture service will be conducted at 4:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 6th, with Fr. Rocco Tito, officiating.
Interment will take place, with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
