Cynthia "Cindy" Ann Beverburg

Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Beverburg, 65, of Meadville, PA, formerly of Dumas, AR, died on January 28, 2022, in Meadville.

Cindy was born on September 11, 1956, in Little Rock, AR, in Pulaski County. Her parents were the late John Harvey Leek and Mary Lee (Wesner) Leek of Dumas, AR, and her sister is Cathy Lee Vernor of Kansas City, KS, formerly of Dumas.

In October 1977, Cindy married Clark Alan Beverburg of Gillett, AR. They had one daughter, Haley Britt Beverburg of Meadville, PA, formerly of Dumas, AR. Although Clark and Cindy divorced in 2008, they remained friends.

Cindy was an honor graduate of Dumas High School in 1974. As a teenager, she worked as an office assistant at her father’s business, Dumas Butane Gas Company. She then attended the University of Central Arkansas and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1978. She was an elementary school teacher in the Dumas Public School system from 1978 to 1987.

In 1991, Cindy moved with her family to Springdale, AR, where she taught preschool at the Sequoyah Children’s Garden and was also a mother and homemaker. In 2011, Cindy returned to her hometown of Dumas, where she volunteered for the Dumas Hospital Auxilliary and attended the First United Methodist Church. She moved to Fayetteville, AR, in 2017 to be near her mother and sister, working in sales and as a hostess at Ella’s Table. Cindy moved to Meadville, PA, in 2020 to be near her daughter, Haley, and son-in-law, Jay Byham, of Meadville.

Cindy took piano and organ lessons for many years from Sandra Leek and Kate Stimson, and she passed that love of music to her daughter, Haley, who now teaches and performs music with her husband, Jay Byham. In the last years of her life, one of her greatest joys was attending their live performances. She loved animals, especially her cat Josie and her many beloved pets throughout the years, and she always enjoyed watching wildlife from her windows. Her true passion was cooking, and she had planned to publish a cookbook one day to help others like her who had special dietary needs. She made friends wherever she went and loved being with her friends and family most of all.

She is survived by her daughter, Haley Beverburg, and son-in-law, Jay Byham, of Meadville, PA; her sister, Cathy Vernor, and brother-in-law, Fred Vernor of Kansas City, KS; and her nephews John Brannon Vernor of Bella Vista, AR, and Tyler Lee Vernor of Kansas City, KS.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Harvey Leek, and her mother, Mary Lee Leek, of Dumas, AR.

The funeral will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Dumas, AR, at 2 pm on Sunday, February 6, followed by burial at Walnut Lake Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held for her Pennsylvania friends and extended family at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Rd., Meadville, at 11 am on Saturday, February 26.
