Charlotte D. Popney

Charlotte D. Popney, 90, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, formerly of 11975 Thurston Rd., Meadville, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

Charlotte was born in Meadville, on April 18, 1926, a daughter of the late Frank and Lavenia (Emig) Schreck.

On May 29, 1948 Charlotte married Edward L. Popney; she lived on Thurston Road until moving to Hillside in 2011 and later to Wesbury in April, 2013.

She was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church her whole life and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

Charlotte was employed by the former Talon Inc. in the Mail Department. She was a 1944 graduate of the former St. Agatha Catholic School. Charlotte volunteered with the Soup Kitchen as well as with Meals on Wheels. Spending time with her family made her the happiest. Her children and grandchildren were very important to her. She loved attending all their games, concerts, meets and recitals. She had many good friends and neighbors and loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling to Austria and Switzerland with her husband following his retirement.

Surviving are daughters Joyce Hayden and husband Tom, Nancy Wellmon and husband Keith, both of Meadville. She also had four grandchildren Ryan Hayden and his wife Ellen, Heather Golden and her husband Dan, Michael Wellmon and his wife Amber, Kelsey Wellmon, a great granddaughter Callie Hayden, a great grandson Alex Golden, a sister-in-law Mary Jane Schreck of Meadville, many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ed, in 2006. She also lost her sisters Virginia Lindsey, Betty Kircher and brother Harold Schreck.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, September 25, 2016, from 4-7 PM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture Service will be conducted at 5:30 PM. Family and friends are also invited to call on Monday from 9:30-10 AM at the funeral home, with prayers recited at 10 AM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Charlotte will be laid to rest next to her husband, Edward, in St. Agatha Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
