Betty Jane Bentley, beloved mother, 87, of 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, passed away Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.
Betty was born in Grove City on October 13, 1924, a daughter of the late Russell and Rebecca (Pierce) Alsdorf.
On August 18, 1941 Betty married Leonard H. Bentley; he preceded her in death on January 25, 1990.
She attended Grace United Methodist Church and in her earlier years was a member of Park Congregational Church, both of Meadville.
Betty worked part time while her children were in school and then full time for more than 23 years at the former F. W. Woolworth Co. of Meadville. Beginning as a check-out clerk, she advanced to supervisor and was employed there until the store closed. John Shryock asked her to begin work at his store the very next day. She worked in the office of John J. Shryock Co. until that store closed its doors. A graduate of Meadville High School, Betty attended Second District Elementary School. Following her working career, she began volunteering several days a week in the gift shop of Meadville Medical Center on Liberty Street then later went on to volunteer her time at the Meadville Soup Kitchen. She was a former Board Member for the Meadville Assembly Order of Rainbow Girls, where she served as Mother Advisor. She had also been a member of the Meadville Chapter of the Easter Star for over 40 years. Betty was very devoted to her family and she took special care of her husband who was ill for numerous years. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with all of her family.
Betty is survived by three children Sandra L. Baiera and her husband Joseph of Meadville, Leonard C. Bentley and his wife Susan of Colorado Springs, CO, Barbara 'Annie' Baker and her husband Bill of Meadville, four dearly loved grandchildren Joseph J. Baiera, Steven M. Baiera and his wife Patty, Melanie L. Seelig and her husband Jason, Susan Elizabeth Radmore and her husband Mark, eight treasured great grandchildren Corey S. Baiera, Rianna L. Seelig, Marrianna Baiera, MiKayla T. Baiera, Jadyn N. Seelig, Svanna R. Seelig, Reghan Radmore, Kaleb Radmore, a sister-in-law Betty Alsdorf of Meadville, a cousin Dorothy Sheatz, two nephews and a niece.
In addition to her parents and her husband Leonard of 48 years, Betty was preceded in death by a brother Charles Alsdorf.
Private Services will be held.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Crawford County Care Centers Alzheimers Unit, 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, PA 16433.
