Betsy Mcdowell

Betsy (Coon) McDowell, 62, of 14530 Denny Road Meadville, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Marquette Hospice House.

Betsy was born in Buffalo, NY, on June 17, 1955, a daughter of the late George Allen and Shirley (Johnson) Coon.

On May 14, 2005, Betsy married David B. McDowell and he survives.

Following graduation from Cambridge Springs High School in 1973 Betsy went on to earn her RN degree from Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing. Betsy had a long successful nursing career until retiring in February, 2016 due to health issues. Betsy enjoyed gardening, sewing, doing cross stitch and she was an avid reader. Betsy was a member of Saegertown Community Church and will be remembered as a kind and caring person.

Survivors include her loving husband, David, of 12 years and brothers Dale Coon and his significant other Toni Brink and Brett Coon and his wife Connie all of Mosiertown and she was "Aunt Bets" to Scot, Michelle and Clay, Jennifer and Maggie.  Betsy is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Betsy was preceded in death by an infant brother Frank Allen Coon, great nephew Hunter Lawrence Callahan and great niece Sierra Ann Callahan.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 10, from 4-8 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 330 BROAD ST., SAEGERTOWN  and also on Wednesday from 11-1 at Saegertown Community Church, Main Street, Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM with Pastor Richard Haemer officiating.

Betsy will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Twp.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marquette Hospice House for the wonderful care and also a special thank you to everyone who was there throughout this very difficult time.
