Bessie Arlene Acker, 88, of 16754 S. Mosiertown Rd,. Saegertown, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014, at home.

Bessie was born in Hayfield Twp., on June 23, 1926, a daughter of the late Glenn and Lena Smith.

On June 16, 1960 Bessie married James A. Acker; he survives.

She was an active member of Hamlin Chapel, Saegertown.

For 42 1/2 years, Bessie was employed by the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville where she worked in Regular Assembly. Additionally she had sold Avon for 32 years. She was a 1944 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School. Her hobbies included Swedish weaving, quilting, cross stitch, sewing, needlework and entering her work in the Crawford County Fair. In 2004 she was the County 4 Star Homemaker Champion. Bessie loved spending the winter months in Florida with her husband.

In addition to her husband, James, of 64 years, Bessie is survived by a son James A. Acker of Culpeper, VA, a daughter Janet A. Gaspard and her husband Bradley of Fairfax, VA, two granddaughters Rebecca Gaspard, Sarah Gaspard, a sister Jean Bittinger and her husband Dean of Avon Park, FL.

In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Main and a brother Merle Smith.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 5-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM with Jeff Bobbin, Pastor of Hamlin Chapel, and Pastor Lea Guiney officiating.

Bessie will be laid to rest in Acker-Roger Cemetery, Hayfield Twp.
