August "Gene" E. Manross, Jr.

August "Gene" E. Manross, Jr., 89, of Saegertown, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.

Gene was born in Meadville, on May 31, 1932, a son of the late August E. and Hildagarde (Kubany) Manross, Sr.

On July 10, 1955 Gene married Shirley Black; she preceded him in death on March 8, 2021.

After seven years of service with Laser Tool, Gene retired as Foreman and Purchasing Agent. Prior to that he was employed by McCrosky Tool for 38 years, where he worked as Foreman for 20 of those years. A hard worker all of his life, Gene was also a self employed carpenter having replaced and remodeled countless kitchens, roofs, siding, etc. A Korean Conflict veteran, Gene entered the US Army on January 27, 1953 and served his country honorably until his discharge on January 26, 1955. He was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Gene attended school in both Meadville and Saegertown. A member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205, Gene was a former member of Elks BPO #219 and of the Eagles FOE #429. Over the years he enjoyed wood working, hunting and fishing.

Gene is survived by three children Paul Manross, Clifford Manross (Sandy), Mary Ann "Annie" Manross, all of Saegertown; three grandchildren Rebecca Manross (companion Josh Douglas) of Saegertown, Holly Manross (companion Floyd "Bud" Curry) of Cambridge Springs, Dr. Jason Manross (Clarissa) of Meadville; nine great grandchildren Breanna Manross, Hannah Manross, Savanna Manross, Wyatt Douglas, Campbell Manross, Lennox Manross, Jaxon Manross, Colton Manross, Madison Manross; a granddaughter in law Jess Manross of Cambridge Springs; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Shirley, 65 years, Gene was preceded in death by a grandson Joseph Manross; infant great grandson Brayden James Curry; five brothers and two sisters.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-6 PM on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Funeral Services held at 6 PM with Pastor Norman Aabye of Open Door Baptist Church officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.

Gene will be laid to rest next to his wife, Shirley, in Gravel Run Cemetery.
