Archie Dean Smith, of 200 McHale Drive, Linesville, formerly of Arthur St., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Meadville Medical Center following 4 1/2 months of failing health. He was 78.

He was born in Worthington on October 13, 1936, a son of the late William Frank and Daisy M. (Barshney) Smith, Sr.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Meadville.

He was formerly married to Helen Rodgers who preceded him in death, Della Ullio who preceded him in death and Cindy Mason who also preceded him in death. On October 19, 2013 he married Judy Stevens; she survives.

Archie attended Cambridge Springs School. While attending school he worked as a bell hop at the Riverside Inn and the former Spauldings of Meadville. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Archie entered active duty on December 30, 1954 and served his country honorably until his discharge on April 4, 1956. He was a member of the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society and of the Meadville Auxiliary Police. In his younger years he worked as a security guard at the former Conneaut Lake Park, the former Meadville City Hospital and at local sporting events. In 1958, he was employed by Capital Casket, Austin, TX. He was a former member of both Cambridge Springs and Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Departments. Archie was employed as a school bus driver for Hubbard Bus Service for 53 years. He enjoyed hunting coons in his younger days with his father. He also enjoyed dancing, camping, family gatherings and spending time with all of his friends and all of his families. His favorite songs were 'Will the circle be unbroken' and 'Honky tonk angels'.

In addition to his wife, Judy, Archie is survived by a sister Daisy Mook of Springboro, a brother Harvey Smith and his wife Judy of Cambridge Springs, seven step children Brenda S. Denman, Patricia A. Allen and her husband Brian, Betsy J. Teasdale and her husband James, all of Meadville, Kevin Davis of Linesville, Mark Davis of Conneautville, Lynette Shoup of Conneautville, Jennifer Rion and her husband Rob of Meadville, eleven step grandchildren Paul, Susan and Andrew Peterson, Emily and Aaron Allen, Chelsea and Jamie Teasdale, Rebecca Shoup, William Shoup, Jr., Robert Rion III, April Lorrain Rion, three step great grandchildren Jessalyn, Blake and Gabriella, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 5-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, with Rev. Benjamin Travis, Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

Following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, Archie will be laid to rest in Venango Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Archies memory to Mizner Funeral Home, 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
