Mr. Anthony 'Tony' M. Vuksan, 81, of 18882 Brake Shoe Rd., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at home.
Mr. Vuksan was born in Wells, MI on February 25, 1930, the son of the late Joseph and Roza (Stojcic) Vuksan.
On January 30, 1954, he married Ramona L. Gott; she survives.
He was a member of St. Bernadettes Roman Catholic Church, Saegertown.
Anthony 'Tony' was raised in Escanaba, MI and at the age of 17 joined the Merchant Marines. He sailed on the Great Lakes from 1947 through 1956. From the humble beginnings of coal shoveler on an iron ore ship, he continued his education by enrolling in engineering classes in Cleveland, OH. During this time he was promoted to Third Assistant Engineer and after obtaining his Engineers License through the US Coast Guard, he was elevated to First Assistant Engineer. Following his career with the Merchant Marines, Tony moved to PA where he was employed by Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Company as an authorized ASME inspector from April 1956 to October 1969. From October 1969 until his retirement in March 1993, Tony was employed by Bechtel Power Company of San Francisco as a Field Inspector, Area/Regional Supply Quality Supervisor and an Audit Team Leader. He continued to work as a casual quality insurance engineer for ten more years until 2003. Over the years Tony had been active with the Saegertown Area Recreation Association. He also enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Ramona, of 58 years, Tony is survived by four children Timothy Vuksan and his wife Carolyn of Vowinckel, Cheryl Lanich of Bradford, Pamela Schreck and her husband James of Meadville, Fred Vuksan and his wife Sheri of Dallas, TX, ten grandchildren Kyle Vuksan and his wife Suzi, Emily Kiskadden and her husband Bryan, Joshua Lanich, Ben Lanich, Amanda Schreck, Abbey Schreck, Justin Greene, Brandon Vuksan, Eric Dodd and Miles Dodd. Tony was very proud of his five great grandchildren Austin Greene, Brinley, Lillian and Tenley Kisdadden and young Jeffery F. Vuksan, two sisters Mildred Bartol of Escanaba, MI, Dora Fronczak, several nieces and nephews. Not forgotten is Tonys K-9 friend, Molly.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Jeffery M. Vuksan, four brothers Michael, Stephen, John, Joseph, three sisters Ann Debelak, Mary McClain and Bertha Majestic.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 6 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernadettes Roman Catholic Church, Renner Ave., Saegertown, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2012, with Fr. David Poulson, Pastor of St. Bernadettes Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Interment will take place at St. Agatha Cemetery, Meadville.
