Alice Miriam (Sawyer) McBride, 87, of Charlotte, NC, passed away Sunday, October 30th, 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC.
Alice was born in Boone, Iowa, on September 29, 1924, a daughter of the late Harold and Louise (Thorson) Sawyer.
On December 18, 1986 Alice married J. William McBride; he preceded her in death on June 2, 1994. She was previously married to Dale J. Clapper who preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville, and of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, NC.
For several years Alice had been employed by the former Mead Nursing Home and for Hillcrest. She was a veteran of the US Navy and served her country honorably during WW II. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Alice is survived by two daughters Susan L. Morris of Meadville, Sally Jo Handy and her husband Jon of Charlotte, NC, two sisters, Charlotte Millard and her husband Gerald of IL, Mary Robinson of CA, two brothers John Sawyer of Boone, IA, Tom Sawyer of Albuquerque, NM, two grandchildren Kendra Morris of Charlotte, NC, Holly Kightlinger of Meadville, two great grandchildren Brittney, Arianna, numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, William, Alice was preceded in death by a sister Beth Baker and a brother Ernest Sawyer.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, November 4, 2011, from 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, and also on Saturday from 10-11 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. Kate Irish Filer of First Presbyterian Church officiating
Interment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
