Assistant Pastor Akim Demon Moody, 51, of Farrell, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at AHN Grove City Hospital.


Akim was born in Muncie, IN, on August 6, 1972, a son of Mack and Donna (Manning) Moody.


On June 30, 2007 Akim married Mary L. Wofford; she survives.


He was a faithful member of Greater Mount Zion Church of God In Christ, Farrell, where he was also serving as Assistant Pastor. He was transitioning to become the pastor of Meadville's Beacon Liberty Street Church of God in Christ, effective March 1, 2024, until his untimely death.


A 1992 graduate of Meadville High School, Akim entered the US Marine Corps on February 1, 1993 and served his country honorably for 13 years. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and National Defense Service Medal, among others. Upon his discharge in 2006 Akim became employed by Bethesda Children's Services until 2011. He went on to be employed at the State Correctional Institute in Mercer where he was still working and much respected. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, a member of the Western PA Jurisdiction Evangelistic Department of the COGIC, and the Erie District COGIC Evangelistic President. Akim loved following all sports especially basketball and football but his true passion was ministering to troubled youth. He had a positive impact on the lives of many young men. Akim will be remembered as a man of service. He served his family, his church, his community, his country and his God. He will be greatly missed.


In addition to his wife, Mary, and his parents Mack and Donna Moody of Meadville, Akim is survived by eight children Marlon McCoy, Jr. of Farrell, Marcus Moody of Meadville, Marcus McCoy of Greeley, CO, Maliek Moody of Meadville, Hosea Moore of Philadelphia, Mykah Moody of Lynchburg, VA, Muneerah Moody of Memphis, TN, Amyah Moody of Farrell; eight grandchildren; a brother Tecco Moody of Fountain, CO; two godsons Joel and Jameire Watkins; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.


Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, and also from 11 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Rd., Meadville, where Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will be held at 12 PM, followed by a Home Going Service with Pastors Larry Wofford and Tyrone Steals officiating.


Akim will be laid to rest in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
