Gerald D. Smith, 89, of the Crawford County Care Center, in Saegertown, formerly of Meadville and Arizona, passed away suddenly, Friday, April 12, 2024, at St. Vincent Health System.


Gerald was born in Meadville, on April 16, 1934, a son of the late Chester and Hilda (King) Smith.


He was married to Esther Eaton, who preceded him in death.


Gerald attended Conneautville schools and had moved to Arizona where he retired from the Railroad. While living there he enjoyed volunteering at the San Diego Padres Spring Training Camp. Gerald had an interest in classic cars and woodworking. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor, especially his one liners.


Gerald is survived by siblings Patricia Rockwell of Meadville, Howard Smith of Douglasville, GA; many nieces, nephews and cousins including Jamie Rockwell (Brenda) and their family Ben, Abby, Andy; Tricia Rockwell (Tim) and their family Lexi, DeMarcus, Miley; other extended family Terri Zoner, Eileen Kotlar, Sandy Hanstine, Suzy Hanzlik, Scott Smith, Brian Hartzell, Randy Hartzell, Ronnie Hartzell, and Bobby Smith.


He was preceded in death by two sons Bradley Smith, Gerald Smith, Jr.; siblings Robert Smith, and Donna Hartzell.


Private Graveside Services will be held in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula, OH.
